Being a teacher in January

I don't know about any else but it just seems like January and February seem to drag during the school year. I love being a teacher but those two months for me are just blah. I guess it is because their really isn't too much going on. I just notice that it is really hard to get high school students to be motivated and want to do anything. They just don't have the excitement. Then once March comes they seem to be a little more upbeat. Does anyone else see that or is it just me?

In my experience, at least for upperclassmen, it is an uphill battle to motivate them after Xmas break. They tend to space out until school is out for the summer. Usually January is pretty busy for me wrapping up the semester and then beginning the new semester. Febreuary drags since our district cut out the mid-winter break. It seems like a long haul from February to spring break and even longer from then until the end of the year.

I don't mind school in January and February. After all I start off January with a week off from holiday break, then I have a week off in February. It's breaks up the monotony. We currently run a year-round school, and I love the schedule. I'll have to tell you about it sometime.
